FUN IN THE PARK FOR YOUNG AND NOT SO YOUNG

P1020877.JPG

On a beautiful evening, the Fun Night returned to the Memorial Park last Friday (29/07) when the young and not so young took part in a Bowls themed contest. With six different tests of bowling skill there was loads of merriment with some players, including several children, trying their hand at Bowls for the very first time.

A large crowd of bowlers and spectators kept the bar staff and BBQ chefs busy throughout the fun filled event which closed with a presentation of prizes to the winners. As it was well past their bedtime, some of the younger competitors had already left for home prior to the presentation of the trophies.

The lady with the highest score was Sally Carroll, who does a magnificent job maintaining the club’s floral displays, Richard Morgan was the top scoring male competitor. Both Sally and Richard received prizes from Club President, Diana Davies.

In a closing speech, Club Captain Hugh Williams paid tribute to the band of volunteers that  made the event such a success and to the generosity of the competitors who raised over £400 which will be put towards purchasing a defibrillator.

DOUBLE CELEBRATION FOR SARA

Sara (COMBO).jpg

July has certainly been a month to remember for club member Sara John-Davies.

Earlier in the month, Sara graduated at University of Wales, Trinity Saint David with  a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree (Business & Management).

Following a trial on Sunday (24/7) at a very wet Llandrindod Wells, Sara has been selected to play for Wales (Under 25/27) against Ireland in September.

Congratulations to Sara from everyone at the club on both achievements.

Later the same day, the Pembroke Dock trio of Ken Chadwick, Hugh Colley and Richard Jones (Skip) comfortably defeated Tony Wilks, Paul Jenkins and Richard O’Leary (Skip) of Haverfordwest BC in the final of the Senior Triples competition. They will now represent Pembrokeshire in the national finals to be played at Llandrindod Wells, the mecca of Welsh Bowls, in August.

On Sunday afternoon, Haydn John-Davies, Paul Griffiths, Richard Hissey and James John-Davies (Skip) came up against a formidable Tenby rink comprising of Mike Jackson, Paul Diment, John Roberts and Dave Kingdon (Skip) in the final of the Open Rinks competition. Despite a valiant effort by ‘The Dock’ foursome, the Tenby rink lifted the coveted trophy.

A total of eleven finals were contested during the weekend which was superbly organised by Haydn John-Davies (Competition Secretary). Many thanks go to the Arwel Edwards and members of Pendine Bowling Club for their hospitality.

NEW SHIRTS ON DISPLAY

The eagerly awaited battle between Pembroke Dock & Pembroke Dock Warrior took place at the Memorial Park on Wednesday evening (15/06). Before the battle commenced, a photo was taken of the participants proudly wearing their smart new club shirts sponsored by Hugh Williams (Club Captain) and Richard Jones (Vice-Captain).

The match was played on a beautiful summer’s evening with spectators watching some excellent bowling from both sides. Warrior fielded a few players making their league debut while the Pembroke Dock team contained several players with a wealth of experience.

For the record Pembroke Dock ran out winners (128 – 52) picking up 12 points to Warrior gaining two points. No doubt Warrior will be seeking revenge in the return fixture scheduled for mid-August.

PDBC V SAUNDERSFOOT
The club hosted a friendly match against the Seasiders at the Memorial Park on Saturday (23rd April). It was good to see all six rinks being used with The Dock having a surplus of members wanting to take part. As a result a number of substitutions were made after the tea interval to ensure that everyone could enjoy a roll up.

OPENING DAY 2022

There was a good attendance at the Memorial Park on Saturday 2nd April for the 2022 opening ceremony of Pembroke Dock Bowling Club. During the opening speech by the new club chairman  - Richard Hissey, he called for a minute’s silence to remember Jane Williames and John Scott who passed away recently.

Richard also thanked  Alan Yea for his diligence as Club Chairman over the past seven years.  The volunteer greenkeepers and the working party were recognised by Richard for getting the club ready for opening day.

Mrs Sally Carroll was invited to roll the Silver Jack as a token of appreciation for her hard work over the years looking after the floral displays at the club entrance
